Here is a statement from No Moccasin Woman, who is the Wolf Clan Mother
and a Tribal Elder of the Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky,
a recognized Tribe in the State of Kentucky

~~Listed on the 500 Nations webpage as being the only state recognized tribe in Kentucky~~

The Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky has filed all documents with the Bureau of Indian
Affairs, under the Department of Interior for Federal Recognition of our Nation. Our Tribal land
is located in Henderson, KY.

This Spring 2007, the Coroner of Henderson County, KY phoned our Honored Chief Manfox and
asked him to come to the Ohio River Bank, in Henderson, KY. The waters of the Ohio River had
washed up several Cherokee remains. Our Chief counted 13 skulls....There were also artifacts.
The Coroner promised our Chief Manfox he would return the sacred remains to our Nation, for
proper sacred Cherokee burial. The next moring the University of Kentucky was knocking on the
Coroner's door demanding the sacred remains. The Univeristy of Kentucky took the remains and
now they sit in boxes at the University of Kentucky.

Later in the year, August 2007, our Chief found that one of the sacred Cherokee mounds on Tribal
land had been pillaged and robbed. The sacred mound was dug up, and all the remains and
artifacts stolen. There was nothing left but a gaping hole with raw dirt around the opening.

Our Honored Chief phoned the Henderson County Sheriff's Deparment and they came to Tribal
Land.  Chief was told, unless he actually saw the grave robbers pillage and destroy the sacred
Cherokee mound, they could no nothing. AND THEY DID NOTHING.

The sacred Cherokee bural site is now empty and pillaged by grave robbers. Neither Henderson
County, KY, the State of Kentucky nor the Federal Government will offer any assistance in the
preservation and protection of these sacred sites. All entities have been contacted and it is a
game of 'run around', 'that is someone else's responsibility'... when the very MISSION STATEMENT
of the Heritrage and Graves Protection Act by the Federal Government...states differently.

With much Respect,

No Moccasin Woman
Wolf Clan Mother
Tribal Elder
Southern Cherokee Nation of Kentucky

In the meantime, costs of trying to protect the remaining sacred sites and having these sacred
remains returned, are mounting up, as well as trying to keep the land all together and fight the
mining companies that are also now trying to infringe on our land.

To defray such costs, Angie Talks to Ravens Moffatt is offering 11" X 14" prints of the above
painting of Chief Manfox for $10.00 each while supplies last. If your heart guides you to send more
for your print, that is fine too.  We need your help.  Our Ancestors need your help... All proceeds
will go toward righting this terrible wrong and save our Tribal land, as well as bring our Ancestors
back to their OWN Tribal burial grounds.

May the Creator Walk before us and be the Light in our eyes...
Chief Manfox
